who thought that Paul Rudd's add libs messed with the tone of the movie?
I mean it's Marvel. They have made Iron man, Avengers, Thor, Cap, etc.... And they are all connected and they have to be very planned...etc...Paul improvises a lot. I like it, it's funny, but it just felt jarring to me in this movie. Like I was watching a comedian dropped into a drama.
Nah... It's a fun MCU film. Much like Guardians and Ragnarok.
shareI think he added a fun element to the movie which made it stand out. Really helped it in my opinion. A lot of people originally expected this movie to flop but it turned out to be a big hit.
shareThis movie actually suffered from a lack of fun, so if Rudd added a little fun and humor with ad-libs then he was doing what was best for the film.
The thing is, Ant Man is such a ridiculous character that they really should have used more comedy in his debut film, most of it was devoted to whining about fatherhood, and very little was spent taking advantage of the potential for weirdness and humor. It really should have been a lighter, funnier, smarter film, and that's why I think the sequel was much better (and so was his appearance in "Civil War").
If it had been any lighter and funnier it would have been on the level of "Airplane!".
