If you click on "Movie Connections" on the main page of the show, you will see that Life on Mars has been remade not only in the USA but in Spain as well, as "La Chica de Ayer", which means "The Girl from Yesterday". Has anybody seen the Spanish remake? If so, how is it? Is the main character a woman?
It should be interesting, the contrast between the early 70s and now is even bigger in Spain than in England.
Don't give me songs Give me something to sing about
I remember reading something on this board about it awhile back it was a man as the main character and the show was set in 78 I think. plus there was no Bowie song used. check this board maybe the post are still there that's all I can recall.
sam tyler:David Bowie. Why does it always come back to David Bowie?
Hey, to answer your question I have seen all episodes of la chica de ayer. The protagonist is a man named Samuel Santos and the show honours the source material much closer than the US version did. The story lines are all very similar with some regional adaptions. If I remember correctly it is set in 1977[post franco-era Spain]in Madrid and for the most part is quite enjoyable though the episodes do drag on it bit - the run length of an episode is often upwards of 70 minutes. The Gene Hunt Character is named Jaquin Gallardo - quite cleverly, it must be noted, as he is nicknamed Quin[pronounced Keen] Chris is Cristobal, Ray is Rai and Ana is Ana! As i've said the series is quite good, it aired in Spain in spring of last year but unfortunately was cancelled after just one series. What I noticed particularly was that the essance of the storyline seem to be more focused on the idea of Samuel having actually travelled back in time and rarely entertained other possibilities such as coma, madness etc...The series concluded with Sam and Ana standing next to a tunnel which would lead sam back to 2009. Sam decides to stay with Ana. Well I hope that answers all your questions but if you have any more don't hesitate to ask!
I believe it's quite common in Spain. I can't think of many examples off the top of my head but the most notable one which is being aired currently is 'Doctor Matteo' which is a re-make of the British series 'Doc Martin' and is actually very good. I think most re-makes are of British shows. As far as American ones are concerned, they generally just dub them. Hope that helps!
In the same way the British series took the title from a popular song from the seventies (Life on Mars), the title "la chica de ayer" was taken from a popular Spanish song from the seventees too.
