Ok, I've watched LoM...now what?

I *really* enjoyed Life on Mars! Does anyone have any recommendations of shows/movies to watch next? Similar themes, settings, or just other shows with great characters :)

Thanks!

Ashes to Ashes is the sequel to Life on Mars. The show revolves around DCI Alex Drake, a female police officer who is shot and wakes up in '81 to work alongside DCI Hunt.

I just finished the first season and have to say that it's well worth watching. It's obviously not as mind blowing as Life on Mars, as we now know what to expect, but there are enough twists to make it very interesting indeed.

Luckily there will be a second season of Ashes to Ashes this year, but when that's done, then what? Forget Lost and Prison Break. Life on Mars have raised the bar for tv-shows for years to come and raising it even further will take a hell of a show...

The Wire and Cracker. The two greatest television programmes of all time...

MI-5 (as it is called here in the US; in the UK it is known as "Spooks")
State of Play (the miniseries that appeared in the UK; not the crappy American remake that is coming out next year)
Wire in the Blood (psychological/police thriller with Robson Green)

Wire in the Blood is an awesome series!
Never got to see State of Play, but have heard Simms & Glenister star in that too, so it must be good

You can try Quantum Leap for similar time travel themes. For police procedurals, you can't get much better than Prime Suspect. If you want the time period, try The Sweeney, depending on your Region code. Only one release was made on Region 1. You could also try period films, like Get Carter and Bullit, or retro films like Bank Job. I also recommend reading A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, if you want to see the inspiration for the premise.

Dempsey & Makepeace, Between the Lines, Five Days. Not necessarily exactly like LOM, but thematically similar. British police dramas are some of the best out there.

What about The Prisoner... 1960's cult programme about a bond-like sspecial agent who wakes up in a surreal artificial world called The Village.

Danger Man and Secret Agent are good suggestions too. Other ITV like The Avengers and The Saint might fulfill your nostalgia yen.
