Brad Pitt's Character Seems Prescient Now

It's been a while since I saw the film

but the character was borderline violent and angry with his son wasn't he?

Hmmm.....

I was being a bit mischievous. Though when I heard the reports I did automatically picture him in 'Tree of Life'.

To me, it's perfectly clear that he loved his kids dearly and wanted the best for them, but in order to do that he needed to be very tough on them so they grow up strong and understand that life can be tough sometimes and they need to be prepared for it. Any mature loving father would do the same with his kids. But in Pitt's characters case in this movie, he may have taken it too far unnecessarily. You shouldn't tell your kids to not speak at all just because you had a bad day at work. It's all about balance with discipline, and sometimes you get too caught up in your own intentions, but forget to notice if it's getting through to them. You don't want them to hate you, but you need them to know rules and boundaries and make them afraid to cross them.
