You are absolutely right. 100%. All movies are subjective. Some people really enjoy existential films, some enjoy more tangible films. Some people prefer zany comedies, some people prefer adventure, some people prefer drama.
You said this yourself regarding Fred Clause: "There's nothing wrong with enjoying those movies". So same for my case. In saying that, I like a good "happy meal" movie every now and then, and I like to laugh, and there is satisfaction in the tangible "you get what you see" movies.
But why do you contradict yourself? If all films are subjective, then "there is nothing wrong with enjoying these movies" should be our case as well. So why are you getting on these boards, angry at someone, something, or some idea, and start insulting the people that really enjoy these films that you hate, and calling them names? a bit hypocritical and unnecessary.
I'm far from insecure. I really don't think I'm a snob in person, and above all I do not believe I am intellectually superior to anyone whatsoever. The reason I love movies like the Tree of Life is because well after the movie is over, it keeps me thinking about the intangible things in our universe, things that are greater than ourselves. hope, love, reason, faith, compassion, nostalgia, recollection. All that stuff is important in transforming us into the adults that we become.
so there's that. cheers!
