They make small changes so they can't sue. Like with King Kong. They never say it is Kong so they have no proof that they took the name. They are basically making movies that are VERY similar to the real deal but make sure they don't get into trouble

King Kong name can not be trademarked so it perfect legal to use King Kong name for free what out getting sued.
King Kong is also public domain

They would have to make sure that the ape looks different enough that have been shown in the theatres, Tv series and DVDs.

This movie company like did not know that King Kong name can not be trademarked so anybody can King Kong's name without paying any money to anybody.
They are all mockbusters,a mockbuster is perfectly legal to make they don't need to pay anybody or get licenses or permission or whatever.A mockbuster would be considered fair use
