Creepshow 3 - not as bad as I expected

I just finished Creepshow 3.
Being a big fan of a original and having a soft-heart for the incredibly flawed sequel, I wasn't expecting much from the direct-to-dvd third installment after reading the bad reviews.

However, I have to say I was surprised.
Sure the movie is full of faults but it has its moments and overall I think it may be deserving of the Creepshow name.

I found every one of the stories to be enjoyable on some level.
The ones that lacked any kind of real worthwhile story (just aboiut ALL of them) made up for it with humor and/or entertaining (if not technically impressive) gore effects. Like the original Creepshow it nailed the over-the-top comic book like characters - something the first sequel lacked.

I know it's been done to death in other films, but I thought the intertwining stories was a good addition to the Creepshow formula as well. The only thing that the movie REALLY needed was the Creep's introduction. Hopefully in the fourth.

As for individual segments:

The Intro - Not the best intro, unless the kid was supposed to be the creep as a child or something. Who knows. Weird.

Alice - Stupid, stupid story but redeemed by a great lead character, humor, and good gore effects.

The Radio - Probably the only segment with a good and even somewhat intelligent story. Some good characters too, but brought down by a disappointing ending.

Call Girl - The twist is SO predictable but getting there is the most fun. Mine favorite of the bunch. Entertaining, sexy, and gory. The two leads were great in it.

Professor Dayton's Wife - This story is SO over-the-top and WRONG you can't help but love it. Sure it's not the least bit scary but other than that everything about it is great.

The Haunted Dog - Funny moments and some good satire to make up for by far the worst story of them all.

The finale - Funny, goofy ending to a funny, goofy movie. It works. At least the Creep did make one confirmed appearance at the end.

I know the general consensus of this movie is the film sucks bad but I just wanted to throw in my opinion. Now tear me apart if you must. Sure it's not nearly as good as the original King/Romero (not even close) but I honestly do think it's overall a little better than Creepshow 2.
