A little TALENT could've saved this thing (SPOILERS)
Watched this again recently. Watching lots of anthologies, get me inspired for writing anthology screenplays.
Maybe it was the budget, or lack of talent, the film could've been better.
Since this is - (exhales) - CREEPSHOW III, it should've been more fun and more in tradition of the first two. Wraparound with kid Billy reading comics.
Drop the ALICE segment completely. I don't know what that was about.
THE RADIO would need a rewrite. Maybe as a thriller, where you don't know if the radio holds a spirit that tells Jerry to do such horrible things, or if he's just lost it.
CALL GIRL is probably still the best segment. Not saying a lot though. Needed work, and better make-up effects.
THE PROFESSOR'S WIFE could've been good with some work done. Though brief, if you think about it, the concept is so bizarre it could've been a great tribute to EC comics. Two guys dissect their professor's stepford style wife thinking she's a robot. How messed up is that!
THE HAUNTED DOG is both decent, and stupid. Some minor comedic moments, and I like to idea of a run down doctor haunted by the ghost of a man he unintentionally killed. Drop the god awful hot dog idea though.
And I wonder why it was called CREEPSHOW 3? No one ever knew why. Does Taurus really own the sequel rights? Or did someone from the earlier films forget to 'trademark' the title? A lot of fans say this is an unofficial sequel simply because Stephen King and George Romero didn't have anything to do with it. That wouldn't make it unofficial, they probably say that because it makes them feel better. If Taurus owns the sequel rights, then it is official. Sucks, but still official.
I wrote an anthology about kids reading comics. Anyone think I'd be able to title it CREEPSHOW 4 and get away with it? I won't of course, just asking. But if Stephen King asked me to write him a sequel, then hell yeah.
Ironically, the prologue for my script was based on a "Creepshow 3" idea I made up while in high school.
