This is NOT Creepshow 3...

Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, despite the change in title, is the official Creepshow 3.
This is just some straight to video garbage made by some talentless hacks trying to cash in on the success of the other, better films by stealing its name. Pathetic.

How exactly did they get away with using the name "Creepshow" on it? I suspect they beat "Tales From the Darkside: The Movie" to register the title, but I would think "Creepshow" would have been a registered trade name.

From what I remember in a reveiw, the Dudelsons used "Creepshow" for this, since Romero doesn't have the rights to Creepshow anymore. Unless I am very wrong with that. Which is why the Dudelsons were able to make Day of the Dead 2.

Thanks for the background. I think that's probably accurate. Apparently George Romero has trouble keeping rights to names, because "Night of the Living Dead" is in the public domain.

Writers/directors rarely own the full rights to their creations once they have been produced. The rights usually end up in the hands of producers and production companies, and can be bought and sold. If a company goes bust or is taken over, its assets will be sold off or inherited by the new owners. I suspect this is what happened to Creepshow and Day of the Dead: when Laurel closed its doors, Taurus acquired some or all of its assets.

TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE: THE MOVIE is not "Creepshow 3", even if it had a lot of the same crew. It doesn't have the same style.

Neither deserve the title really.

Indeed, in fact a Creepshow 3 was being worked on at the same time as TFTD. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/udar55/laurel87.jpg
See.

However Creepshow 3 fell through.

This is officaly Creepshow 3, like it or not.

Is that why it's listed on Wikipedia as an unofficial sequel?

Say what you like about it, Wikipedia is strict about editing. They usually are very conservative about stuff like that. If they're allowing that it's generally accepted to be an unofficial sequel, then it's unofficial.

If Taurus have or had the film rights, it is an official sequel. This unofficial talk is really just angry opinion.

Exactly.
This is an official sequel, it's just angry fans that do not like to think of it as much and claim TFTD is the "real" official sequel...despite proof that TFTD movie and Creepshow 3 were in pre-production at the same time. Ergo, they are separate franchises and were treated as much too.

I love the first flick, the second was hit & miss and this one is watchable tat.
However, while I'm a fan of the first two and not of the third...it's still the official sequel, like it or not.

I agree. This movie does not exist as far as I'm concerned. It does not deserve to be associated with the other Creepshow movies.

3 is the worst of the trilogy, but not an awful movie. It felt like more of a made for tv movie, or an episode of tales from the crypt. Different feel from 1, and 2. But still worth watching.
