When ranking the movies that have won best picture that have been released over the last 20 years, No Country for Old Men comes out on top. Here is how I would rank the winners:

1. No Country for Old Men
2. American Beauty
3. The Departed
4. Birdman
5. Million Dollar Baby
6. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
7. Braveheart
8. Slumdog Millionaire
9. Argo
10. Titanic
11. Gladiator
12. The Artist
13. A Beautiful Mind
14. The Hurt Locker
15. Chicago
16. 12 Years a Slave
17. The English Patient
18. The King's Speech
19. Crash
20. Shakespeare in Love

I pretty much agree with your list. I would change the top 5 around though. The Departed would be number 1, followed by No Country For Old Men at number 2. Then I would have Million Dollar Baby, Titanic and American Beauty to round out the top 5. I would keep everything else the same.

Wedding crashers is an excellent movie but it's very fluffy. Jay doesn't understand movies if he thinks a movie that is pure entertainment should win best picture. In my opinion Jay should not be allowed to watch movies.

Maybe more absurd is the guy who says no country is the best movie of the last twenty years. In the imdb poll the departed is ranked 44 of all time no country is ranked 165 which is right on the money. The OP is lucky he doesn't live in China.

The fact that Shakespeare in Love beat out Saving Private Ryan is one of the biggest travesties in Oscar history. I own all the Oscar winning films from 1969 forward and I refuse to include SIL. Private Ryan is proudly in that spot. Another big one for me was Ordinary People over Raging Bull.

SPR was quite a flawed story. SIL was not. I think the choice was appropriate.

Who gives a sh/t about the Oscars? Frankly, I don't care for mos of these films; they don't represent the best movies. Many of them represent the often liberal, mainstream Hollywood agenda. The fact of the matter is that the films that win often don't have great competition. "No Country" didn't have much competition. What, "There Will be Blood"? The same could be said about others. Then there are films which are pretty mediocre but won anyhow: "Crash," "The English Patient," "The Departed," and "Argo." Just spare me that "Lord of the Rings" crap. Real movies, please. The best movies of this *beep* " best of" list are:

1. American Beauty
2. Braveheart
3. Titanic
4. A Beautiful Mind
5. Million Dollar Baby

Though, I didn't see that "Birdman," which I hear is good.

There are a few good movies on this guys list but 12 years a slave Is a real dog. Although to be fair I've never seen it.

I tried to watch the artist a few times but the most I got was 15 minutes in.

Aren't the hurt locker and Argo opposite movies? Although I never saw Argo.

Some aren't bad but the only ones that deserve to be on a best of list are the hurt locker the Departed titanic Braveheart and gladiator.
