Two Smartest People in No Country?

I have to go with Ellis and CJ's mom as the two smartest people in no country. Why? They both see the big picture. CJ's mom had figured out moss a long time ago. No and good is her brilliant description of him.

She would have laughed heartily at the idea of moss going back to the drug runner playing the water Boy. She would say to those who think it makes sense, Get real people!

Do any of you guys think there are smarter characters?

reply

CJ's mom is forced to go on the run, there's clearly some bad people involved, and knows the cops haven't been told. So what does Dmaria's smart woman do? She tells everyone she meets they're going to EL PASO.

The beer lady was smarter than CJ's mom. No one sees what's coming, she said. She knew that in her own case. She knew Moss was no good - takes one to know one. That's why his showing his wedding ring didn't phase her. But he's handsome, and no good means a good chance of getting laid. Or getting killed. Let's just say she knew what she was willing to put up... and out.

reply

Apparently larks is an old maid who hasn't been laid in who knows when. Why else would she justify beer lady with this absolutely nonsensical rationale? Not to mention after having condescendingly lectured others on here about morals, integrity, hypocrisy?

In other words, beer lady was smart for thinking with her genitals ( the end justifies the means ) albeit she had acquired a certain measure of wisdom based on life experience.

And Moss is still deemed as " no good " although he chose fidelity by flashing his wedding band and resisting the temptation.

Absolutely one of larks' finest, most blatantly hypocritical moments on here!

reply

You're still angry? Jeez. Take a breath or two and just let it go, man.

reply

That was an excellent post by the hammer. He didn't just call larks a jerk but gave a reasoned response to her nonsense about the pool lady.

As usual larks dodges the points the hammer raises. Larks shows she has no aptitude for movies. On the other hand I would certainly want her on my side in a game of dodge ball.

reply

I'm sorry, but two angry dunces does not make a right.

reply

By the same token one Artless Dodger who refuses to respond to the thoughtful criticism by the hammer does make a wrong.

reply

The Goose and the Mad Hammer, funny bedfellows.

- I didn't say or even imply that the Beer Lady was smart for thinking with her genitals, or that the end justifies the means.

Hammy did manage to pick up the implication that she had acquired a certain measure of wisdom based on life experience. He may be blunted, but he's ahead of Dmaria there. I've said that Dmaria makes an anvil look sharp, and this is more evidence.

Dmaria has consistently said CJ's mom is right that Moss is no good. So I'm enjoying the irony of him claiming it's a "reasoned response" to say Moss can't be deemed " no good" because "he chose fidelity by flashing his wedding band and resisting the temptation."

- I stated that the Beer Lady knew Moss was no good and that meant a good chance of seducing him. He certainly expressed enjoyment flirting with her. That communicates an openness. That there's a chance. I can only report what's actually on screen, humbly, and without excess.

reply

It was definitely implied in the second paragraph of larks' post. More blatant, hypocritical denial considering how larks has tried to consistently discredit dmariat on his comprehension of contextual content.

It makes sense that CJ's mom might consider Moss " no good " but not Beer Lady. She was operating on assumptions only. And flirting is an ego stroke for the recipient. Very few men in Moss' position wouldn't have enjoyed it.

"....humbly, and without excess ? " 

reply

Since you don't risk specifying how the 2nd paragraph "definitely" implied this, I'll set aside your complaint as empty.

Moss wasn't merely a "recipient." The scene actually emphasizes that he was not passive but an active contributor to the flirtation. The two tangoed, you see.

The lady running the motel was pretty smart because she knew if moss took a room with two double beds he wasnt getting the best value for his money.

reply

Good point. Also the hayseed podunk gas station owner was pretty smart in realizing that accepting the coin toss would give him an easy 50% chance of survival. Unlike that dumb broad Carla Jean.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

reply

Come on. There's no indication that CJ failed to realize that the coin toss would give her a 50% chance of survival. The scene is only controversial in the first place because they made it obvious that she realized it, yet chose not to participate anyway.

The fat lady trailer park manager seemed also brilliant if not clairvoyant. About to get the cattle brain punch to her head she got uppity with Anton. Meanwhile her son Jethro flushed a turd down a commode (unseen). Anton hearing that noise and seeing her fury scampered out of the scene like a dog scalded with hot water. http://imgur.com/a/cWA7w

reply

That's also inaccurate. Chigurh left grudgingly, not remotely like you described.

Two excellent posts by mic. Larks likes to quibble over everything. Obviously if the GSO realized his 50 50 chance and didn't call the coin toss mic would not think he was smart. It's all one transaction.

The trailer park manager scene is absurd. Sugar is suppose to be so fearsome yet he is intimidated by a defenseless woman.

What makes it more stupid is that she could give the police a detailed description of sugar but bell couldn't take the few extra steps to her office. This was a major crime. The staties and the guys from federal drug enforcement didn't bother checking the trailer park. Unbelievable.
