Mr. Wells' comment about the # of floors in the building?

Any idea if that comment "you know i counted the floors to this building from the street and....theres one missing"?
To which, the dude sitting at big desk replies "we'll look into that" means? Or is it even important, just showing that Wells is observant Maybe????

reply

Just my thought -- there is a mysterious floor in the building where they hide or do things; e.g. drugs, dead bodies etc. The floor is not accessible to the public (e.g. not on the elevator panel). The scene was not very clear - but that's what occurred to me.

reply

Ahhhh yes that makes perfect sense thanks.

I thought the missing floor conversation was just an exchange of sarcasm. The missing floor being the 13th floor making the building actually having one less floor (as observed from the outside) than the highest # floor on the elevator. I really doubt it was meant to be a "secret unlisted floor." If so, it would appear the building had an extra floor as observed from the outside.

It was reference to the 13th floor, most hotels or building dont have a 13th floor.. supersticious

I think the book explains it more clearly, but johnmkirby's explanation is close enough. Stephen Root's character stayed on a floor that was inaccessible by elevator, and it was a security matter for the most part. I'd have to read the book again.

Thanks for your responses guys. I'm wondering if i would still be able to enjoy the book now if i got it, knowing the story?

reply

I thought it was just done for comedy like maybe one floor just wasn't labeled and it was odd to say.

reply

Oh yes, read the book by ALL means!!!

Excellent point graves. The book is better than the movie. Which shows you can conjure up in your own mind better than the coens did with millions of dollars.
