I recently went with some friends to the MoNH in New York City, and while we enjoyed ourselves in an amazing place, hardly any of it resembled the movie! My friend was sad. Is this movie set in NY; isn't there another one in DC?

I teach this movie to students when we look at critical viewing of a movie because it has so much to offer.
The lead in clearly sets the movie in New York. You get great sweeping views of things like the Brooklyn Bridge and Central Park. There are also the outside scenes that show Central Park in winter.
At Christmas time I came (from Australia!) to visit the Museum and was very disappointed at how much poetic licence had been taken with the interior in the movie. In fact I think the entrace hall in the movie was far more inviting than the queue lined one that I found myself in.
I have also visited the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC and in retrospect it would seem that many elements are borrowed from this musuem.
My whole visit to the Museum in New York was quite disappointing as I hate the way US Museums seem to be set out all higgeldy piggeldy with no clear start and finish. I always end up walking out knowing I've missed half of what I came to see because there is no easy way to methodically work your way through!
Needless to say I'm looking forward to the next movie, especially if it means not sitting through 20 viewings of the current one, next year!
