Actually, no. That is a very old adage:
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

It's kind of funny because it is kind of a confusing saying. I thought it went like "Fool me once shame on me" because you were too foolish to recognize it the first time, but then of course "fool me twice shame on you" wouldn't really make sense either.

It's supposed to mean something like, fool me once, and you should be ashamed for fooling me. Fool me twice, and I should be ashamed for letting you fool me again. Does it make more sense now?
