Owen Wilson uncredited??

I thought he had a pretty big role, why would he be uncredited??

reply

Owen Wilson's role as Jedediah was just supposed to be a cameo - but his character tested so well with the audience, they gave him a bigger part. He wasn't going to be credited either way.

Seriously, that's so weird. Why do movies do that, have actors appear unbilled? A role is a role, they should recieve credit for it. If it is a 2 second appearance, like say Fred Durst in Zoolander, then that is fine if they're not credited, but this is rediculous. Wilson should've been credited at least third or fourth down.

A cameo is generally a brief appearance by a very well-known actor or actress. Cameos are used when the filmmakers want to keep a particular actor's appearance in the film as a surprise to the audience or to keep the actor's presence a secret in order to avoid overshadowing the rest of the film: think Sean Connery's appearance at the end of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

In the case of this film however, I agree that Owen Wilson's part could hardly be considered a cameo, particularly as he even featured in the film's trailer! I'm guessing they intended a much smaller part for him originally for which he would not receive a billing but it does seem strange that they didn't add him to the cast when they extended his part. Perhaps they did it partly for Ben Stiller's benefit - this is supposed to be a Ben Stiller vehicle rather than a Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson film and they wanted the audience to regard it as such.

Well, in some cases the actor either doesn't like their performance or the entire film and ask not to be credited.

Its just pretentious in this case.

It was Owen's choice to not be credited.

I'm also surprised he was uncredited. He was one of the main characters, his scenes appeared in the trailer, AND he's in the sequel (I assume he's being credited in the sequel). Why on earth would he ask to be uncredited? Once they enlarged the part, why wouldn't he get credit then? Makes no sense!

as someone already stated, his part was supposed to be much smaller (no pun intended), basically an uncredited cameo for his buddy Ben Stiller. But the character tested so well that the role was expanded. As to why he wasn't added to the cast list when the role grew bigger, only Owen can tell you for sure but didn't this movie come out around the same time that Owen was having all those personal problems? Perhaps he didn't want to drag the movie down with the media attention on his personal life?

That was odd too, as Jedediah did have a monumental part to play, maybe it was a last minute additionSource:Movie Reviews - Night at the Museumhttp://moviereviews.noskram.com/2009/09/movie-reviews-for-night-at-the -museum

I'd go with the 'uncredited to not overshadow his buddy' theory. Wilson was a big name, if he was credited it would have looked like a 'Stiller and Wilson' film, and people would have expected them to have equal parts.
If his part was bigger than originally intended, and they beefed it up because he was popular, the next step up might have been "Let's make him turn full-size so he can pal around with Stiller, and give him an even bigger part!" Totally changing the movie.
I thought that might be behind some of the 'Giganto' vs 'Teeny,no,Tiny' teasing. Riffing on 'You're a big star, aintcha?', and 'You've got a tiny part'.

And, I would have really, really, liked to see a movie with tiny cowboys and Romans loose in the city.

of all the movies i've watched,, and i've watched thousands of them i've never seen an actor/actress be uncreddited with that much scenery and dialogue,, last movie i seen that some major star was uncreddited was jason statham,, remake of pink panther,, he had one big scene and done,, so yeah it's kinda weird.
