Why didn't they just do this?

When the engine was in front of the runaway train, slow down enough so the train was almost right on the other train's coupler, then have someone jump from the rear onto the front of the runaway train, then take off ahead of the runaway train, the person goes in the cab, takes off the throttle, slows the train down, end of movie.

"[easy, logical solution], slows then train, end of movie"

I think you answered your own question, there.

reply

Yup. Would have been a very unexciting 30 minute movie.

I completely agree. I just saw this movie and was bewildered at why they didn't just have an extra guy on board to jump across and stop the train. I even went back and slowed down the scene and saw that there was plenty of space for a person to just climb on board. This is pure lazy storytelling. The very least they could of done was show that the front was damaged due to the collision it had earlier but nope, it was as if the train had just come fresh off a factory.

reply

Yeah, that baffled me too. With all those helicopters they could have just hoisted a man on board and stopped the damned thing.

Plus, how the hell did Will's wife get there so fast? She was watching him on TV one second, and just as he had pulled the breaks, she was there!

reply

She was watching him when Will was hurt, later on after he makes the jump, she was there. But yeah, OP, if they had done that, the movie would've been over in 5 minutes. It would've been like in Speed, hey put something on the brake and have everyone jump off the bus and make sure the camera plays a loop of them so Hopper wouldn't see anything. There wouldn't be much of a film.
