I agree. I had no desire to see this movie when it first came out and just happened upon it on HBO a couple weeks ago. Since there wasn't anything else on worth watching, I left the movie on basically for some background noise while I did a little cleaning but I got so involved in it that I let the cleaning go until the movie was over. I liked it so much that I even recorded it the next time it was on and have watched it 3 times now.
Most action movies have really slow sections where they delve into people's backgrounds but "Unstoppable" didn't do that. I felt that they gave us enough of a backstory on Frank and Will that it didn't need to take up any more time than they devoted to it. The fact that it was only about an hour and a half long meant that it was almost non-stop action and isn't that the point of an action movie? And I loved the "what are they doing now" screens at the very end, especially Dewey's!! One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
I loved it as well and am astonished at how much hate there is for the film. In an era where CGI sadly seems to rule all action films it was refreshing to see an action film with, gasp, STUNTMEN! Non-Stop action and nailbiting excitement, good acting, I really don't know what people didn't like about this movie.
My only issue, and it's a minor one at that, is the scenes of people cheering at the TV, like it's a sporting event or something, it kinda bugged me.
I've seen it like 3 or 4 times now and it never ceases to have me on the edge of my seat. The only thing I didn't like was the horse trailer scene...as a horse person, I just know that the horses coming out of that unscathed (yes, they were scared, but not hurt?) was unrealistic. But I still loved the movie! I think people are too critical these days and just jump on everything. It's a movie - either you like it or you don't, but no need to bash it and everyone who likes it!
I thought this movie was quite tense, gripping, and exciting. Denzel Washington and Chris Pine were both excellent in their roles. Moreover, at a brisk 98 minutes this film was never dull and certainly didn't overstay its welcome.
and the background score kept adding to the suspense.... I loved it. It may not be very original or imaginative. But it was gripping. That is what cinema is for me....
