Unstoppable....starri ng every hollywood cliche in the book

Lets see

Young newcomer and veteran are teamed up.

Veteran doesn't like newcomer at first.

Train goes out of control cause some morons screwed up.

Attempts to stop train fail. (because its newcomer and veterans job)

All the bigwigs are depicted as incompetent jerks. Only the black woman shows some pride and offers our heroes help.

Veteran and newcomer form a bond. And of course they are the only two people who can stop the train.

Our "heroes" disobey orders (like when has anyone in a Tony scott film ever followed orders)

They have to stop train before it crashes and makes a huge mess. After all, there would be no tension if it was simply gonna drift to Canada.

Veteran and newcomer jump aboard...and stop train with inches to spare.

Both are declared heroes.

Seriously, this film was a load of propaganda crap. If Tony scott at least tried to do something different (like have the train crash) I might have been satisfied. But nooo....Tony was a hollywood hack and would only play by the rules.

Not spitting on the guys grave. I hope he rests in peace. But this film was terrible.

Yeah I know. How silly of me to actually think tony Scott might think outside the Hollywood rule book. With all the clout he had gained, there was still no way he would deviate.

Gotta remember to keep my expectations low when I go to the movies. Might have a heart attack if anyone tries to be different.

Scott was simply doing what he was best at: action, helicopters, fast edits and camerawork that tries to inject energy and urgency even into exposition. Can't remember The Hunger, but any Tony Scott film since Top Gun - ok, maybe not Revenge, has the same template (even True Romance i.e. the amazing hotel room shootout) and I don't think a film about a runaway train gave him many Remains Of The Day type opportunities. . . . You wouldn't buy a Static-X cd expecting it to sound like Taylor Swift. . .

Yeah, I agree that the movie was pretty predictable but I still found it very enjoyable. An acceptable way to spend a rainy afternoon, imo.

Have a nice day!
I kick arse for the Lord!

While I'm with you about the "Bigwigs are depicted as incompetent jerks" -- The rich older white guy on the golf course talking only about company stocks is particularly insulting... I disagree with the "black woman" being the only one to show price or offer help. You had Stewart, the old friend who risks his life (and dies) trying to stop the train, you have Ned who spends the entire movie chasing down the train, and you have the Safety Manager guy who is generally played in these kinds of movies as some pompous ass showing up to cause problems, genuinely helping the characters succeed.

I'm surprised though that you left out the most, annoying, insulting cliche... that the "loser" guy who screwed up in the first place now has to settle for a job in the fast food industry, because, heaven forbid, as Hollywood would have you believe, anyone who earns an honest paycheck in that industry can't amount to anything.

Though, you can't really tell, I actually didn't mind the other cliches and actually liked the movie a lot.

anyone who earns an honest paycheck in that industry (almost certainly, with the exception of student part-timers) can't amount to anything.

"Propaganda?"

Really?

Come on now, really?

Yes, how true.

Bumbling and corrupt whites are once again rescued by hyper-competent blacks.

LOL at calling it propaganda. Someone shouldn't use big words if they don't know their correct meaning.
