Writers screw-up?

I saw this movie when it came out and enjoyed it. Just watched it again today, and there is a scene where I think they screwed up.

At one point, they have a pair of blue engines ride out in front to try a slow the runaway train (777) down, while at the same time, have a helicopter fly over top and drop a guy down.

Well... why not just have a second guy get on the two blue engines (being driven by Judd}, and when 777 connects up from behind, the 2nd guy could jump onboard 777 and take control?

I seems this didn't to the writers. If it had, they had a way out. They could've used the collision with the horse trailer and created some excuse out of that, that as a result, someone couldn't jump aboard from the front, or whatever...

Oh well.

Still a good movie.

This has been brought up in a previous thread but anyway it would spell the end of the movie if they did it that way. I see these type of decisions as everyone has a different way of doing things some yes you would think that jumping from the blue engine would be the safest way. But they made the decision to slow the thing down and try and drop someone from the air. The same thing could be said for why they didn't use two engines one at the front and one at the back. It's the choices that are made at the time that can make a film more real thats the way I see it
