Can't producers do math?
Can't movie producers do math? The producers spend millions on a very exciting film and then throw "speed" and "distance" numbers around randomly like no one in the audience can do math. If 777 is going 70 mph and is 9 miles from Stanton, then 1206 (1.5 miles behind) would need to go 81.65 mph to catch up with 777 by Stanton. If 1206 catches 777 2 miles before Stanton (need a little wiggle room), then 1206 needs to be going 85.0 mph. Then moments after 777 escapes the Stanton curve (the film suggests 777 was about 25 mph around the curve) less than 2 minutes later (after 1206 has blown its brakes) they say the train is out of control and going 75 mph--that's with individual brakes set on half of the cars and lugging an extra locomotive! A train cannot accelerate that fast. So, if you are a mathematician, switch your Math setting to "off" and enjoy an exciting film with terrific chemistry among a fine set of actors.
