The show isn't depressing

It's dark, certainly. But consider for a second that by the end, the good have been rewarded, and the cruel, indifferent, and selfish wallow in their anguish.
Those who suffer for any long period of time are usually shown to be the instruments of their own torture.

It's a little more graphic in its depiction of the fallen then say David and Goliath, but the message is the same. Persevere, be a good person, and you'll be saved.

I mean would Dante's Divine Comedy have been quite so beautiful on its angelic leg without the horrific reflection of hell as contrast?

"It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why."

I like the show a lot, but I found quite a few of the episodes to be horribly depressing. Perhaps the show wasn't intended to evoke sadness in its viewers, but certain episodes brought tears to my eyes. The overall message might be good, but I still felt bad for a lot of people and their situations even if they were selfish, "bad", or other less than desirable human qualities. Maybe I'm just overly emotional with regard to certain subjects, but people CAN see things differently from others. I would think the world would be an extremely bland place to live in if everyone saw everything in the same light, anyway.

Also, some may find it strange, but I was actually attracted more to the episodes I found depressing rather than the episodes I viewed as humorous. I suppose I like it when a show can actually stir up strong emotions in me. No, the Divine Comedy would not have been even half as great without its depiction of hell. I would say the same regarding Moral Orel; some of the episodes may have been fairly depressing, but it would not have made as much of an impact without them. Unfortunately, many people just couldn't take the dark nature of the show.

All glory to the Hypnotoad.

Well thank god you pointed out relativism. We really need to shove that aesop down more throats :p

Lol, sorry. I was trying to point out that while I find it to be pretty depressing at times, I actually enjoy those moments a lot and think the show wouldn't be as great without them.

I'm really tired. I just now realized that was probably sarcasm.

This show is heavy regardless of the outcome. I started watching it because the episodes I started out on were solely an indictment of religion. However, I watched a ton of episodes last night and the closest thing that comes to comedy in this show is the sheer tragedy of the all of the characters. They all are miserable. And just when you think they deserve what they're getting there is a flashback episode and you see why they are so damaged. Namely Clay and that bully kid, damn that *beep* is messed up.

Love the show though. It really started out as a simple satire but became much, much more.
