Clay's gun

Why does Clay not give Orel the Puppington family gun? Was it because it was special to him, and he didnt want his son to have it? That would make sense, since Clay is a selfish person. Or was it because he knew it was tainted and didnt want to involve his son with something like that?

It caused his mother's death, and was a symbolic form of his dads old love for him as a son. The speech in my opinion was away for him to recapture the love his dad once had for him, and not so much to hype up the gift for Orel.

Really sad if you think about it and adds more into the Clay character

The Dark Carnival
