I think they just liked the idea of making a 7-year-old act like a 2-year-old.

The kid did not stand a chance. Bloberta hated him because he was a testament to her infidelity (which is really never completely explained), and Clay hated him because he knew deep down he was not his kid!

Both children were abusively ignored and were allowed to be as destructive as they could be. No good parenting there!

Bloberta doesn't hate Shapey, she just chooses not discipline him. And she doesn't hate Orel either.

She's definitely not the best parent in the action of ignoring her kids needs, but she doesn't dislike them.

Oh I think there is a lot of resentment towards Oral and Shapey!

I think Shapey just chose to be silent for the most part. Remember in that one episode toward the end of the series' run when Shapey talks properly much to Bloberta's shock?
