What do you think Orel will be like as a person when he grows up?

Based on what you've seen.

"You're from the 60s! Peace love dope! Back, back to the 60s! No place for you in the future!"

A well rounded individual.

After last night's season finale episode he could turn out either being an athiest or a well-rounded person. OR he'll maybe he'll see that there is no escaping his community and the Christian facade and will end up like the others of Moralton: miserable-hypocritical-christians.

reply

It's very interesting because with the events of Nature, Orel could become miserable, bitter and jaded like every other citizen of Moralton; he could still become a well rounded person. For that matter, Orel could go in a direction that no one but Stamatopolous has in mind.

If I had to guess, I would say he is on the bitter, jaded path but I am excited for season three.

I think he'll remain Christian, just not the same type of Christian the town wants him to be.

reply

Exactly...just like every NORMAL person you've ever met who came from an extreme religious upbringing and/or education.

reply

Is that supposed to be sarcasm?

I, and many others i know were raised in an extremely conservative upbringing and yet still managed to come out pretty normal. i do think a big part of that was rejecting what was shoved down our throats for years, but it's hardly unrealistic.

People don't change, but they do grow.

reply

well, i know he'll be a better person than his father, that's for sure.

reply

Orel will grow up to be Dino Stamatopoulos. I thought that was the entire point of this show, the director reflecting on how naive he was as a kid.

This show is so dope i can't even begin... It went from good ol' awesome christian/conservative bashing to something much more...

Episodes from seasons 2 and 3, (from "Nature" onwards) have have moved on past christian bashing to explore the actual world of the show. We got to see what goes on with the different characters, their personal histories and the reasoning behind why they are the way they are. At the same time, Orel went from naive child, doomed to the life of blindly following religious authority to a becoming a very contemplative individual whose decisions reflect his internal struggle, as seen in the very powerful episode "Nature Part 2." In seasons 2 and 3 he begins to see everyone else's faults and personal issues and tries to help, much to no avail... but he still tries.

The episode "Alone" reveals that Ms. Censordoll may take her Messiah complex to the next level, as evident by her scale model of Moralton... hinting at a possibly epic story arch in which Orel may emerge a hero.

a well rounded individual, married to Christina with two kids and a dog...a bit saccharine but hey, it makes sense. Wonder if Christina and Stephanie had any off-screen role in keeping Orel happy...well Christina obviously.
