Closeface -- genius Dino

I just want to say that that episode was absolutely beautiful.

I'm jaded and cynical as hell but I am not lying when I say that I choked up a bit.

Also, great song and clever concept.

I agree. I realize this new direction Orel has taken doesn't fit into the mantra of the adult swim brand, but episodes like "close face" and "alone" really push the storytelling boundaries of what a 12 minute cartoon can accomplish.

reply

Eh closeface sucked, but alone was pretty funny.

Oooh, look at me! I'm saying the morbid one was funny for shock value! Don't I sound like a bastard and all around jackass!

"If you should need me, tap this staff three times on a wall."
"Magic?"
"No, it's just loud."

reply

Or they actually did find it funny. Why do people always jump to assumptions such as this? I have been accused of this quite frequently by others, but I just have a darker/morbid sense of humor. Do people have a hard time understanding or accepting how one could find messed up situations funny, or is it just a stereotype?

All glory to the Hypnotoad.

Adult Swim's main audience isn't mature enough for the direction Moral Orel was taking.
Not to sound pretentious or anything, but an audience that loves crowds of people being horribly mutilated set in time with a black metal song is probably not going to like introspective analysis of a father figure's self destruction

I would agree that the quality has dropped for the most part. I was pretty sad when Futurama left. I don't really mind Robot Chicken most of the time, and Venture Bros is still going strong, which makes me happy. Frisky Dingo might be done for good, though, and its spin-off, The Xtacles got poor ratings, but nobody knew when it was on because of crappy advertising. I'm actually one of those few that loves Superjail, but I too am sick of the constant Family Guy reruns. I'm glad they still show Home Movies, Lucy Daughter of the Devil, and Sealab reruns from time to time, but shows like Assy McGee, Tim and Eric, Tom Goes to the Mayor, and Xavier: Renegade Angel almost totally ruin it for me. I'm not yet quite sure what to think of Drinky Crow.

All glory to the Hypnotoad.

To the OP -- don't worry, that episode was just on, and I completely teared up. Great episode. And to cleaningtechnologypjc - I like Moral Oral AND Metalocalypse. They are both parody shows, and anyone who likes parody shows... should like both. The show is more than killing the audience to black metal... which by the way, is death metal, not black metal.

I agree with pretty much all of your post, we like the same stuff, but I don't watch Robot Chicken. I think you should give Drinky Crow more of a chance if you haven't been watching, I think it's a great addition to the lineup, but I can't say whether I think it's a good adaptation of the comic strip or not though. I wasn't sure about it either, that and Superail, but I appreciate them both now.

Yeah, when Orel and Christina were dancing I came close to tearing up, the whole episode is great but I love that scene especially.

Does anyone know who sang Closeface? She sounded familiar but I just can't place it.

What's the matter? You don't think it's funny?

reply

Britta Phillips sang "Closeface." You probably recognize her because a. she voices most of the female characters on the show and b. she was the singer behind the "Jem" cartoons.
