Something I don't understand

This show seems to be poking fun at 1950s American society but what is the point in that. Very little of American society today even remotely resembles the 1950s. Whats the point in making fun of something that no longer exists?

While the definite target is the old cartoon "Davey & Goliath", I think the show is taking aim at modern society. The episode that dealt with the Missing Link becoming a conservative radio host is a jab at Rush Limbaugh. There are a few modern conveniences shown, but I think the producers are saying that Moralton is so rigid that it's practically stuck in a time warp.

Moralton is obviously an exagerrated depiction of a conservative religious community, and thus the creators went with showing it like 1950s society because they wanted to emphasise just how conservative Moralton is. So I don't think it's a criticism of a long gone period of time but rather a criticism of any society that employs moral authoritarianism on it's people.

If you looked at present society's to this day you see for instance some hard right pastors demonizing homosexuality as if it were going to ruin the world yet actually be gay themselves. Guys like Elliot Spitzer in New York can be kicked from his position despite being one of the few to oppose the NY banks and predict the disaster we see ourselves in now- but apparently having it off with a hooker is more important to us than the banks corruption.

In short our modern society is very morally authoritarian- that's what the show highlights- the hypocrisy inherent in that.
