When I first started watching it, I was rather bored because it appeared to be a series of formulaic one-offs: Orel goes to church, Orel misinterprets lesson, Orel reaps havoc, Orel is disciplined partially.
That's actually why, in light of the second and third seasons, I don't really like the first season; they just came off as a bunch of repetitive hyperbolic shots at fundalmentalism, and if I wanted to hear those, I'd just go back to my old high school.
Second season though, the events and plots seemed to startte being interwoven and continuity was established.
The second season was actually my favorite; it was thought-provoking and touching without making me want to kill myself at the end of each episode ("Nature" being the exception, of course).
Especially the episode where Reverend Putty and Stephanie become a family.
I just want to use this opportunity to say that that episode is my favorite in the entire series, paticularly because it has a message that's universally applicable in real life.
