I'll have a BLT, thanks.

Bernard: "You'll settle for a tuna sandwich and you'll like it!"

Stubbs: "Ah, okay...?"

In the armoured car later:

S: "So back at the diner I didn't notice you taking out bad guys. I'm seeing a new side to you."

B: "It's what I do."

S: "Kinda like a ninja prophet, huh?"

B: "Sigh..."

S: "Hey, lady, I love your style - both beautiful AND dangerous. You been a reactionary for long?"

"Shut up asshole, I'm driving."

B: "You know she's right. You are sometimes an asshole."

S: "Sigh..."

(Just a little extra dialogue haha.)

Thanks for posting what they've said.

An REVIEW/RECAP article I read for Ep. 3 talks about how much STUBBS and MAEVE are alike due to the way both of them keep making WISE CRACKS all the time about the situations they're in.

So Caleb is kind of in the same role as BERN with being the SIDE KICK of MAEVE.

But that's probably also going to CHANGE now that Caleb's been attacked by those INFECTED FLIES
and the MAN in BLACK has captured MAEVE???

Yeah, I enjoy the repartee between those characters. Should indicate here I was being creative by imagining/restructuring the dialogue that actually appeared in the episode - sort of imagining what might have been said given the dialogue presented to us. So, yeah, wisecracks abound but in a more limited way in the show. :)

Stubbs is uncomprehending of the gravity of the situation whereas Bernard has major insight it seems. They encounter a distrustful female resistance fighter who is not easily persuaded as to their trustworthiness.

Maeve is dynamic as usual in the episode.

I guess Caleb is now a threat to Maeve being now sort of a controlled asset for Man in Black and Charlotte. No doubt a major internal struggle will occur in Caleb which Maeve may try to break through given an opportunity.

I'm confused as to why this Caleb situation is happening.

Charlotte/Dolores is acting this way because she blames DOLORES for getting attacked by Serac at that meeting last season, even though C/D also killed everyone who was there and ESCAPED with the DATA. Then she got even more PSYCHO after her make believe son and hubby were killed when the car explodes during their attempt to Escape.

But WHY is she after CALEB? What did he have to do with that? Is she after him simply because he's human? And how did she know CALEB had teamed up with MAEVE? All Caleb did was tell ROHOBAM to destroy itself which C/D shouldn't object to. Right?

In a REVIEW someone else also pointed out how it would have been much easier for C/D to attack CALEB and MAEVE on the TRAIN to the NEW PARK instead of going to all the trouble of creating the FRANKIE look-a-like creature with the FLIES inside.

But that would also not have been as interesting for us viewers to see Caleb & Maeve captured on the train before they got there.

reply

True. They extended the journey further this episode by giving us the idea that maybe things were coming to a head and Charlotte was done for, but it was not to be so...not yet, anyway.

I think Episode 4 has made it possible to answer those questions in your post and clarify some of the narratives they have been showing us vis-a-vis character timelines.

So Charlotte/Dolores seems to view Caleb as being inherently valuable - something she must explore, understand and control. He is a wildcard and may be able to influence the Host androids, which could be a problem for her or even perhaps a way to evolve her people - a stimulus or methodology. Now that Caleb is an android he can neither die in the human sense not escape programming or training. Nobody can escape in Charlotte's regime, the humans have been biologically programmed and all the androids are programmable and controllable by manufactured design, and all are mind controlled by the signal from the tower.

We assumed that Caleb and Maeve were and would always be free, and we were watching in real time their exploits and not a smulation recreation of the past from years ago. Now we've led to believe that both Caleb and Maeve are actually dead in different ways and also that both survive in robot form, one being animate and another lying buried "waiting" for the next time to be animated (assuming the massive landslide at the mine plant did not damage her irreparably).

Maeve will need to find Caleb, who ironically is in his "right mind" as far as the limitations of his cloned mind will allow, but devoid of his original body. He will need to break free of the influence and control of his captor Charlotte with Maeve's help. Somehow, though, Maeve will need to do things a bit differently, to avoid giving away her locations and colleagues on the level of electromagnetic signals and data transmissions and the like. Meeting with Bernard should help.

So, that's where I'm at with the show at the moment.

Where do you get the idea C/D sees Caleb as being valuable??? What did he do to indicate that's the case? Do you mean because he impressed her when he was able to DISOBEY her order to shoot Maeve?

If Maeve and DOLORES were able to escape their programing, why can't CALEB? Isn't that what the MAZE is all about? A way to achieve AWARENESS??? If Maeve and Dolores can ESCAPE Ford's control (due to the REVERIES), then Caleb should also be able to as well.

And wasn't it also the FLIES that infested him that enabled C/D to control him???

Was that the body of MAEVE that we saw BERN dig up? It looked like it might be another copy of that other girl Bern was with. So the explosion Maeve sets off to destroy the GOLDEN AGE PARK is how she got buried???

I'm still plenty CONFUSED as to what the MOTIVATION is for C/D picking on Caleb this way.
One can understand the reason why she'd torment William or The MAN in BLACK, but before tonight's episode, what kind of previous intereaction have we ever seen between Caleb and C/D???

In the lab scene after Caleb is infected and Charlotte is talking to him (about 8 minutes into the episode): "I've get better plans for you and your kind [than being put to death]. And besides, Maeve and Dolores were always so fond of you I'm inclined to keep you around, see what all the fuss is about.". So, here she is at least curious about Caleb, even though her tone is dismissive and mocking. Later, her efforts to bring Caleb back from death through perfecting his clone self (the "Fidelity" interview/process) seem aimed at preserving his personality and mind - she needs him for some reason.

She must have hacked Dolores' and Maeve's concsciosness and found out that Caleb was an ally, an important one that helped them achieve their goals. He is thus relevant to her. I reckon he might well escape Charlotte's control, but it will take time. i don't think the flies were totally successful with Caleb, he was weakened but not fully controlled by the parasities that were introduced by the flies.

yup, it seems that Maeve is the buried figure.

Thanks for letting me know what she said about CALEB. It sounds like she might be interested in having a romantic relationship with him (like Maeve supposedly did at the lighthouse).

Since Bern was created as a former copy of FORD's partner ARNOLD, also wonder why they don't create another CALEB that way instead of making 287 copies of him that failed???
