In an interview with Variety, co-creator Jonathan Nolan confirms that, "Dolores is gone." However, that doesn't mean Evan Rachel Wood is done with the show as he goes on to explain, "I think it's important with a show in which death can be impermanent — these are robots, after all — to mark the occasion with Dolores. That version of that character is gone." It sounds like Wood could very well return but as a different iteration of the one we've seen grow these last few seasons.
Now there's just the question of when exactly it will come out. No release date has been set yet, and it's important to remember that there was a two-year break between seasons 2 and 3, which came out in 2018 and 2020, respectively. For such a VFX-heavy show, it makes sense that it needs enough time to get everything to look perfect, so if we were to make a guess, we'd think season 4 would come out in 2022. No doubt the COVID-19 pandemic has set things back even further, so keep checking back with Looper as updates become available.

which might mean they won't start filming it until summer or fall of this year???
Also sounds like the OLD WEST version of DOLORES won't be coming back again.
So what will the NEW VERSION of her be like???
Does this also mean there'll be no more disagreements with MAEVE??
Will the MAN in BLACK be the one who will RESURRECT her again???
Hopefully we won't find her living inside of one of those ROUND ROOMS where he'll keep trying to TWEEK her until he creates the kind of copy of her that he wants (like he did in the case with his father-in-law).
It would also be CRUEL to find her living a 50's style life as his wife (because he's programmed her to believe that it's her duty to obey and worship him in some way).
In other words, hopefully we won't find the same thing has happened to her that happened to HECTOR last season when he got REPROGRAMMED and didn't even recognize MAEVE.
