What's So Special About Abernathy?

When that lady (sorry I forget her name) was telling Bernard that Delos wanted a "package" that was supposed to be delivered before anything else, I assumed that they were referring to the MIB, that he was really a host & that all his experiences were delusions, part of his programming.

But I was kinda surprised when she said that it was Abernathy. What was so special about him & why was he the "prize" that Delos coveted so badly? Does anyone have a clue? That's one part of the episode that intrigued me but since he's down in the basement gathering dust, again I'm wondering if I missed something regarding him. Anyone else?

I have the same question.

Why do you say he’s in the basement gathering dust? He’s loose in the park with all the other escaped hosts.

Louis Herthum’s work as Abernathy was well received by critics an and fans alike. He was an unknown actor that went head to head with Anothkny Hopkins. Some say he stole the scene. So I’m guessing the writers needed a host for the “package” plot and it must have seemed like a smart idea to use someone that people know, a critic/fan favorite.

As for what’s so important about him in particular I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I don’t even have a guess but if I think of something I’ll try to share.

Sorry about that, I forgot or must have missed the part where he was reactivated & set loose, but thanks for the consideration in alerting me if you find out anything.

She (Charlotte) uploaded tons of data into him during season 1. Scene starts with her getting Sizemore and telling him that he's not working on the real Wyatt. After that they go to the cold storage with all the deactivated hosts and she picks Abernathy to upload the data into.

She doesn't know the storage is now empty with all it contained now reactivated.

in what i believe was the first episode, he was the first host to go 'off script'. it was a tantalizing reveal. so something about him was cooked even before any of the series action started. i kept waiting for him to pop up again during season one.

and now... the violent delights from the forbidden tree have plopped into their hands.

Fascinating stuff jriley. Can't thank you enough for the link. Great article, there's so much that just went over my head. To think it didn't make me think at all even to see that those guys were Chinese. It's just a show & I was entertained. Good stuff! Thanks again.

His role in the theme park is to be Dolores’s father, so I speculate that his connection to the woman who internally hears Bernard communicating with her has something to do with his importance. Because the Hosts don’t actually reproduce themselves, he could not have passed whatever is in him that let him go off script to Dolores via DNA; but we may learn that they share some custom coding that let her “inherit” his ability and then build on it. I’m not sure which Host is more in the forefront of leading the development of Host consciousness, Maeve or Dolores (and they may be coeval); but it’s obvious that both of these Hosts are at the leading edge of the Host mesh network/hive. Dunno how Pa Abernathy fits in, yet; but being the daddy of the Hive Queen must count for something. Good thing he didn’t die after fertilizing her mom!

An interesting fact about a mesh network: the more devices that are on it, the stronger its connections become: almost the opposite of other sorts of networks. The Hosts will want as many of their kind up and running on the Host mesh net to enhance their bonding. That’s one of the reasons why the decommissioned Host warehouse is empty.

Another reason is: because it’s fun.
