High School Musical is the WORST movie I have seen in my life; it is not only a huge insult to theater and music but it was forced down our throats by the media hype. Everywhere you went people were saying how great this movie was, and how everyone should love it. It was strongly advertised on TV, and you saw its merchandise in every store you could think of. In fact, it went even further in undeserved popularity than most overrated movies did. First, Disney was advertising it and milking every penny of its worth right up and after its release. I watched it out of curiosity, expecting a good movie, and I was just stunned at how bad this movie really was. If that weren't bad enough, it got a sequel, and then a third movie ending up in theaters. It got a whole franchise all to itself. WAY too good for this film.
As for the plot, it is a shallow, unrealistic and utterly pointless. It takes a basketball star and a mathematician, puts them as possible love interests, and they decide they want to audition for the school musical. The drama queen has a big problem with that, as well as his teammates, and her academic peers. And if that weren't enough, THE ENTIRE SCHOOL!!!!! At my high school, nobody cared how many clubs you decided to join. These people wanted you to join one club, and if you so much as mention that you're in the chess club and the Spanish club at the same time, "Aah! Stay away from me!" That's a really little thing for normal people to overreact to. And of course, stupid stuff after stupid stuff occur, leading up to the villain becoming nice for no reason, and a big, happy dance number where everyone is happy and gets along.
