Aw come on it wasnt that bad.

First time viewer, just watched it because of hearing about it so often, whenever i hear anyone mention this film its in a negative way.Now the movie wasnt great in all means, it was your typical Disney cliche fluff, it was pretty corny at times and most of the cast couldnt act. I didnt like any of the songs either except the last two.But it doesn't deserve the overwhelming about of hate, Troy and Gabriella acted well in the film and they were likable, story was cliche but it was pleasant, and it was kinda enjoyable to watch once.I cant really say much about the score it has a 5.0 id give a 5.6 perhaps, but the WOM i hear im surprised it was that high. Now HSM2 and HSM3 have a 4 something and 3 something. Havent seen either but i bet HSM3 doesnt deserve a 3. something. This movies made for people under 12 to enjoy, ripping it apart as a "oh its so gay" is kinda unfair, it really isnt a bad film.

I agree. Bland, yes (especially the songs), and the voices weren't as impressive as, say, Glee, but it was an all right watch. Not something I'd repeat, but as you said, "pleasant". Let's keep in mind that the first two were made-for-TV movies, which only have so much budget to work with, and they had to pay composers/musicians/vocalists out of that budget as well. Looking at the brainless, trying-too-hard, unfunny tripe (eg Hannah Montana) I see whenever I turn to the Family channel, this is practically a shining beacon in comparison. Not that it isn't brainless itself, of course.

I agree it's not bad but I think Disney over did it and ran it to the ground though. It was annoying seeing the cast on any and everything plus they had stretched it out into 3 movies something NO musical should ever do!

Uh...no. This movie was AWFUL.

OP, that's how I feel, actually.

I've been thinking about Disney movies and remembered that I sort of liked the first HSM as well. Of course it wasn't a masterpiece. But it was cute/campy/harmless fluff. It has a good message. Plus the so-called good guys are ACTUALLY the good guys, and vice-versa. Not like Hannah Montana where Miley Stewart is treated like an angel but she's really a spoiled brat.

But what worked for the first HSM was that they weren't trying to be anything more than a cheesy DCOM. HSM 2 and 3 were disasters because Disney felt the need to "step it up," aka up the cheese factor to an unbearable level.
