Why didn't Troy just audition when Basketball season was over?

Maybe for the Spring Musical? Wouldn't that of made more sense? Then his teammates wouldn't have been so angry and he still could have had his thing going with Gabriella until then.

Yeah. I see what you mean. What I have thought is that maybe he was interested in seeing what the 'competition' was like and then he only 'auditioned' because Gabriella wanted to.
