Timing of the school year?

Ok, so we first meet Troy and Gabriella at a NYE party, it implies that they are on winter break. However, when they get back to school, Darbus says they are working on the winter musicale. So what the heck? Year round school?

I caught that too, but I think maybe they were having a musical in February and then the Spring musical would be in late April/May? My school only did one large musical a semester, but they had one smaller play/musical as well.

It depends on the school, but my school use to have quarters so you would have Fall ( late Sept - Dec.), Winter (Jan. - March) and Spring (late March - early June). I assume the Winter musical would be late Feb to early March, then the kids would come back from Spring Break and there would be a Spring musical.

Makes sense to me, it is exactly how it works in the UK.

My high school was like this. After we cam back from winter break, auditions began for the musical (which was usually in February or March).

It seems to me that they are just like any other school that goes a full school year, which could be August/September to May/June, depending on if they start school in August, or they don't start until the day after Labor Day. But it seems to me, and it is quite clear by your post that you missed the sequel, High School Musical 2. And the movie opens up with the Wildcats going on their summer vacation, which Troy and the rest of the Wildcats get summer jobs at Ryan and Sharpay's parent's country club. And I am not sure how much time (if any) year round schools give their students for summer break, maybe a week or two at the very most. Which that wouldn't be worth having a summer job for. And that seems to me that the time would be right for a high school to be working on their winter play/musical depending on how many musicals a school may do in a year, say if they have a fall and winter play and just have a spring musical, or a musicale as Ms Darbus would say. I mean when do you want them to start working on the winter musical, or musicale in summer? I am betting that it has been a really long time since you have been in HIgh School.
