Not this movie but the musical they were trying out for the film? What exactly was it supposed to be about? None of the songs they sung during the audition phase gave any indication of that at all.

The stage shows have always been reflective of where Troy and Gabriela are in their lives.When they meet they "Bop to the Top" at the karaoke contest, throughout the movie they were "Always Right Beside" each other, and at the end of the movie were "Breaking Free" of their perceived cliques in front of the entire school and gaining acceptance doing so.
shareI saw your post before I watched the movie today and looked for any indication of a musical name (Darbus kept saying "Winter" musical). Right before Troy and Gabriela accidentally audition, Troy is hiding next to a janitor's cart and there is a red hand-painted sign that says "Twinkle Towne Auditions Today." I am guessing that is the name of the musical they're auditioning for, since many of the songs are originals and some are written by Kelsi. You are right though, there aren't any real clues to what the musical is about at all, but the songs reflect what is going on with the kids at East High.
