Quality performances mired in a pedestrian, lifeless film

I wanted to be a believer but when all the chips are down, this is a conventional film on it's best day. There's no way around it. Even with good work by Crowe, McAdams and especially Mirren as the fiery editor, what's really missing is a story with some bite. There's nothing incredibly creative or trailblazing about this film's storyline. Even the ending feels like a little too mundane. All in all, a film with a good, professional look to it, and a solid acting lineup but all for naught in the end.
