Does anyone else think... *Spoiler*

... the part where Collins knew beforehand about Sonia and her spying by having Bingham come after her ruined a great story?

I think it would have been much, much more captivating if PointCorp actually did all those things like sending Bingham to kill Sonia since her story turned up dry.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it would be far more fascinating than finding out some congressman was spying on his mistress and things turned out ugly in the end.

I agree with you completely. It was a good movie but it would have been better had it followed the path it was leading us down. As it is, what crime did Collins actually commit? It was a plot twist with no real payoff.

I agree as well. It was completely pointless and unsatisfying.

Collins had apparently ordered the death, or at least the surveillance, of Sonia, and since all the other deaths stemmed from that, he knew Bingham was on a killing spree and did nothing to stop it.

Stupid ending. Not that the movie was that good, but the ending made it a waste of time. It was one of those movies that I thanked God I hadn't paid to see it, but I still want my 2 hours back.

Well, it's true to the (critically acclaimed) original British serial. It was played as a bit more of a "twist ending" in the film (in the serial, Bingham is confronted and killed much earlier in the overall story, and Cal's confrontation of Stephen is really the high-tension point).

I was so convinced that Mrs. Collins did it that when I recently watched it again I was surprised at how it did end.

IMHO,

I thought of what you guys are trying to say as well. I completely agree and felt a bit deceived as well at the end.

But if you step back and think for a moment it a smart ending coz initially the film starts of as a military-industrial conspiracy we all have heard of and a guy fighting got it, Right?. The politician seems honest and selfless, etc, but he is a human after all and has his own desires, goals to be met.

So one one hand it shows that who in this "war on terror" is actually profiting - the corporates, but they are not the only ones. The politicians, who actually dont understand whats going on, lead us down the path of destruction.

I dont know whether Collins in his heart has calculated all this like killing and help from journalist or was he a true believer in his patriotic cause. The point I would take away from this is that at the end of the day we all are humans and have our own goals, desires, constraints to meet, so we all pretend to love someone or our country and in the process hurt others, intentionally or unintentionally. It was a very humane ending.

YES! I completely agree with you OP! I just finished watching the film and felt rather disappointed by unnecessary twist. It really has ruined otherwise very good movie. Such a shame.

reply

Yep, I found it to be an unnecessary and anti-climatic twist.
