It's not as easy as you think. When I worked for T-Mobile there was a VIP department. Regular reps don't get to look up celeb phone numbers. The VIP accounts would likely not even be in his name anyways, probably under the name of the agency that represents him. That is how these things often work. If he changed his number frequently, anyone who accessed the account would leave a "foot print" indicating that it was accessed.
As for how these people got the numbers, aside from the "women talk" angle, I'm sure that there are a lot of people who would get his number by default. All of the producers and what not that he worked with, along with numerous other people that he collaborated with and just those that he was kind of friends with. Also, if he called someone who had call display that might explain it as well.
Simply put, there are too many people in the music industry who would be willing to play both sides. Alternatively it could have been that cop in the LAPD who likely had hiim killed in the first place, but I also doubt that as there would be a trail of either him requesting it or him asking people for it.
