What was the significance of Puff's hat at the end?

When biggie had just gotten shot, Puffy goes running towards the car, losing his hat in the process. Once the scene is over, they zoom in on the hat.
Was the hat significant in any way? Did puffy really lose his hat while running for biggie in real life?

And if ya don't know, now ya KNOWWWWWWWWWW.

I don't think it was Puffys hat it was Biggies.Its like his symbol.When I think of Biggie I always see him with a hat and a cane.

Nah, it was definitely Puff's hat, not Biggies. I don't think there was any significance to the shot other than desperation to help Biggie.

after looking at that scene again, burgundychampagne is correct, it was Puff's, you can see him wearing it just before the shooting
