Did I miss something?

The movie tries to "realistically" depict his life so he's a crappy person/father/husband/lover/son and yet he's a hero? I like rap music and I like anti-heroes in my movies, but he had no redeeming qualities other than he can rap. Did I miss something about why he should be missed?

I was thinking the same thing when I watched this at the movie theater. I remember mentioning it on the way home. I think his mother said something at the end of the movie about being proud of her son. I know every parent is proud of their child at some point and i can imagine her grief but what did he do that was so great. He had an obvious talent and gift for rap but he didn't do anything positive with that except make some money.

Notorious BIG is the best rapper of all time. Hes was only famous the last 3 years of his life really, what kind of impact should a musician make in only that time? Biggie Smalls is the sh!t.

Yea, you missed a little of the ending. Biggie did what he did as that was illustrated in the film. Yes he did some crappy things just as all humans do at one point or another (including placing judgmemt on others when we don't have the right). Potential for redeeming qualities were present if you listen to the words of the last song Biggie did in the film. He told Puffy that he couldn't rap about the same things anymore. Sky Is The Limit is the name of that song I think. After the car accident that broke his leg shows him in bed with a lot of time to think about things. He expressed that much when he was visited by D Rock. If you listen closely to the lyrics of that song, you can hear the difference between it and the songs he did in the beginning. It was smooth, lighthearted and absent of sex, thug and drug talk also gone was the objectification of women. Telephone calls displayed a desire to straighten things out and be on good terms with the three women in his life instead of disrespect and pointless arguments. Talk of spoiling his daughter and plans to help his mother seemed to replace a lot of negativity previously spoken. Anything more than that will remain an unproven entity as his life was abruptly and tragically cut short. Nobody claimed he was a hero. The film depicts certain events in this man's life for those who want to know about it. It is what it is, millions of people loved him for whatever reasons but, nobody said he was a hero.

The ending of the movie was pure bullshyt because even they knew he had zero redeeming qualities so they had to add something, to make him seem somewhat sympathetic but it didn't work for most viewers. He was just asking to be shot, with his karma. A retarded fraud, acting tough but the slightly stress turned him into a straight up whiny lil pussy. He just poured out negativity and spread it.

He was an overrated rapper too. He rapped about the dumbest shyt possible. He only had a few good songs but so many dick riders got huge boners for anything he released. Which is all you need for a rap song to be considered "good." A bunch of hype for some fad song that disappears in a few months.
