The most intellectual film of 09?

I just watched the film tonight, and decided to see what everyone else thought here on IMDb, and I am astounded at everbodys take on the film, each opinion about what they believe and how the story unfolded to them, the themes they could relate to and the overall style of the film, why certain actions were done, certain events, different charcter perceptions. I find it truly fascinating how a film like this manages to convey accorss so many different messages, whereas trash like Transformers 2 gets all the hype and money all for big explosions and slow-mo booby shots.

I really loved this film, which heavily inspires me to become a succssful animator in the near future. I would love to see a sequel to this film, however, i can predict it will simply ruin the open-endedness of the story. I hope that Shane Acker can make some more inspiring and amazing films in the near future, but with the same artistic style.

You're kidding, right? This movie made absolutely no sense, and worse relied on the tired "evil military" angle to TRY to make sense.

Just being more intellictual than Transformers 2 doesn't really say much for how smart the movie really is.

While I did enjoy the movie, I found the themes to be fairly shallow, the characters were really one dimentional and not horribly interesting and the story was just OK. It's like it was the skeleton of a good movie but it was missing most of the meat and guts. I think many people react so negatively because it had the potential to be much better than it was.

I agree with slyle. This movie found terribly incomplete. When it was over, I could only laugh. If intellectual means void, then I can get on board with the first poster.

Well, intellectual does not mean medicine served on a spoon, and all you have to do is open your mouth and slurp it up. An intellectual movie touches on subjects of universal meaning. If it is good, it does not lecture the viewer. It does not spell out The Complete Truth, but it hints at pieces of it. If it is truly brilliant, it lights little sparks in the viewer, and these sparks provoke our thoughts. Sometimes these thoughts become part of our continuing process for a long time.

In these terms, there aren't many movies I see that do not give me a positive experience. 9 is not just one of the majority I embrace, it is well into the smaller group at the top that I celebrate.

LOL REALLY?
This topic makes me laugh. The idiots and trolls have officially ruined IMDB.

most intellectual film of 09? What a joke. LULZ

The characters were the souls (or different personalities) of the scientist, so of course they will be one dimensional.
So you're saying it's conceptually flawed rather than just poorly executed? That's not really an argument for this movie being any better.

I agree with you. Unfortunately a lot of the posters here seem to think that their opinions make or break this film. Just because they don't like it, it's a horrid movie that only immature people will like. The news for them is, if they don't like it, don't have anything to do with it. The only trolls here are the ones that purposely locate themselves within a forum pertaining to things they don't like just to comment on it.
