the premise was lame (spoilers)

the guy puts his soul into a doll via the powers of a magic talisman? this kind of lazy writing breaks the fourth wall because it's too easy and convenient. whomever wrote this drivel should be ashamed for insulting the audience. see, magic red shoes work because of the film experience (wizard of oz), the songs, the characters, the situations, the easy suspension of disbelief, this is how you handle things that can't exist in real life, you make them real. i see none of that effort in 9, i just see the same computer animated characters with the same eye movements that all computer animated characters have had for the last ten years.

You're talking nonsense. I would agree with you that the basic premise isn't strong, but the execution - the 'making it real' was fantastic. You're basically saying that the story in The Wizard of Oz is okay to be preposterous because you enjoyed how it played and looked. So if you'd liked the look of this one, like most people seem to, you'd forgive any premise weakness. So the problem isn't the premise. It's that you don't like the visual style. That's your problem.

That's not what breaking the fourth wall means.

Can't stop the signal.
