English newspapers and French/German signs?

All the clips from newspapers are in english (maybe this is only due to necessities of international filmmaking), but at the entrance of the tunnel you can see a wooden sign with something like "Cumieres-Weg Vorsicht einzuse...". It's hard to read.

Cumieres sounds french and there's a commune in north-eastern France with the name "Cumières".
"Weg" is german for "path" and "Vorsicht" is the german expression for "watch out".

Are we supposed to belief the film is set in France at the time where it was occupied by germans?

reply

who knows. it's clear that the movie took place in what was a war zone. it could have been English/American military in another country.

Other world, alternate timeline, inconsistancies in the technology. All that can be said is that the world that this takes place in isn`t ours though it clearly has similarities.

The fact that 9 et al were hanging out in Notre Dame might be a clue....

By Notre Dame you mean a typical gothic style cathedral found throughout western Europe from Liverpool to Budapest? And one with very little similarity to the actual Notre Dame.
