Characters in 9 look like Minions

I saw a bit of "9" recently was was startled to see that both the the characters in 9 and the minions in Despicable Me have the same single or double "eyes".

You mean in the same way that humans usually have either 1 or 2 eyes? I say usually because I'm sure that woman who made out with the chimp has no eyes now.
