Ron Chernow's Washington: A Life

I was wondering if anyone else on this board has gotten to read Chernow's recent bio of George Washington. I got this as a birthday gift and am reading it as quickly as I can; fascinating stuff and Chernow can always be relied upon to tell an interesting story.

Dang, I'm going to have to look that one up. I really liked his book on Alexander Hamilton. Chernow is probably the best writer of biographies that I've ever read.

It took me awhile to read Chernow's Washington bio. Really long and dense, jam-packed with minutae and trivia, which makes it hard to read in spots. It's definitely worth the effort of reading it, though. It will definitely make you rethink Washington, always a plus for a biography.

Apparently Chernow won a Pulitzer Prize for Biography for this book. Well-done, sir!

If anyone has some time to kill, here's an in-depth interview CSPAN did with Chernow about the book:

Haven't read it yet. It's on my endless must read pile. I like any new look at Washington especially one by such a good writer as Chernow.

Just be ready to invest a lot of time on it - it runs close to 1,000 pages and is jam-packed with minutae. It took me the better part of three weeks to finish. Definitely worth the effort though.

At least it's shorter than the massive four volumes by Flexner and the seven volumes by Freeman.
