This John Adams series is remarkable for being very well-balanced, it showcases the very very reasonable case of those who oppose independence---their arguments are as follow: 1. we will likely lose against the british 2. if france helps us, then France may become our masters.

In hindsight, they were wrong, but only in hindsight.

Ihose who favor independence, i call these men: Independence-ist, runner-up: Independence-men

it eschews triumphalism and the usual cliches. KUDOS to the HBO team!!!!

With the benefit of hindsight, we would all say that we are for independence but without that benefit, I'm willing to bet that many people will see the very cogent argument of Pennsylvania.
