musical inside joke ? or tip of the hat..
at two crucial points in John Adams' career/life- first, as he begins his unpopular term as vice president, and second, as he leaves the White House and the Presidency (beginning of 5th episode and ending of 6th episodes, respectively)
we hear the Andante from Schubert's trio No 2, E-flat.
it's a very different performance from the one heard in Stanley Kubrick's 'Barry Lyndon'.. but the Barry Lyndon scene is so defined by this music (there is no dialogue- just Schubert) that I wonder if Tom Hooper intended a parallel ?
Barry Lyndon is the story of a man who begins with little, attains (wins?!) a great deal, then loses everything.
interesting, then, that the Schubert is in the background when John Adams experiences these setbacks- ?
anyways.. I'd enjoy reading any comments about the score/soundtrack of this excellent mini-series-
