Company behind SYTYCD has filed for bankruptcy

19 Entertainment which produced American Idol and produces SYTYCD is owned by Core Media Group.

Core Media Group filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday, saying it has not yet found a way to replace revenue earned from "American Idol."

I have to wonder how long this has been looming and if it has anything to do with the changes in SYTYCD this season.

And what the long term prospects are for SYTYCD beyond this season.

I am a bit resigned to have lost one of my favorite shows ever. I'll watch this season (or least give it a try) but I miss the old show already.

The bankruptcy is mostly because american idol went off the air this year and they owed Simon Fuller 3 million dollars. If they wanted to continue their current shows they needed money for operating costs. And that article is old. They have found a way to replace the revenue:

Apparently Elvis Blue Moon Parent gave them a loan of 30 mil.

They should've never changed the format from Season 1 or 2. I think they should've done this should've been a trial run to see if people would watch it and if not, go back to the old format. They need to go to the tour shows, get on boards, get out and talk to actual fans and see what they're all saying. I'm sure we all have some of the same complaints that they could've fixed to keep everyone watching instead of sitting around a desk pushing ideas around with 4 people that have never watched the show. What probably happened this season is they asked their children what they would like to see and this is what we are watching. It's a shame! I'm going to be staring at the all stars 100x more now because I just don't care about these kids. And I hope they don't expect us to see them on tour. I'll pass to meet 8 year olds! Thanks!

The heading on The Hollywood Reporter story was 'So You Think You Can Dance' Gets a Lifeline from Elvis Presley

...And of course, Nigel Lythgoe was in a relationship with Priscilla Presley. Guess also maybe he had to sell his six houses to pay the bills.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1208036/Remember-Nasty-Nigel-Lythgoe-Hes-nearly-died-twice-owns-houses--wifes-run-man.html

Nigel first met Priscilla when American Idol was filmed at Graceland. 'At first, I just wanted to hear the stories, to find out what it was like to be married to the American Idol. She's beautiful to talk to.'

So has theirs become something more than a meeting of minds?

'It's grown into a wonderful friendship,' he says. Fine. But is it also a romance? 'I'm not sure what's meant by a romance,' he counters. 'I don't really know the meaning of that word.' (Oh yes you do, Nigel!)

'We text each other. We phone. We have dinner. But we're not about to set up home. I've grown fond of her family, of Lisa Marie and her children.'

Might he consider marrying again? 'I'd consider it. But I don't feel I could pin myself down. Bonnie leaving me took me by surprise. I've been upset because of it for a long time now.'

He makes an effort to change the mood. 'Since I've been in the U.S.,' he says, 'I've lost the back of my heart, 15ft of intestine and my marriage - and God, I miss my intestine.'

But there's a gung-ho ring to these words that sounds rehearsed and hollow.

'When new friends like Priscilla come into your life, it does help to heal the wounds. She's so intelligent. She's lived such a full life. We discuss charity, the world, politics, Elvis. And, although she's involved with Scientology, she's never forced that on me.'

He smiles. 'Priscilla's the sweetest person you could ever hope to meet.'

I wonder if next season will keep the younger format or go back to the original.

With these ratings it's very unlikely that we'll get another season.
