This got bad really fast

I disagree with your statement that this movie took a downturn. Acting was solid throughout and the laughs and action were delivered. Alan Alda and Eddie Murphy delivered performances we haven't seen much of from them in awhile which was awesome. What more did you want?

As for movies that started off good but then took a very quick downturn eh right now I can't think of anything off the top of my head ....

My initial impression was that it was painfully slow to start and that it needed more Eddie Murphy. But when Eddie finally showed up (as part of the heist) it was somewhat hit and miss, not as funny as I hoped it would be with the cast involved.

It turned into a complete cartoon the moment they discovered the car was made of gold. The plot was too goofy to start with. He was a building manager, there is no way he would have been able to select how the pension funds were invested.

Yea, I was enjoying the movie until the discovery of the car & the drawn-out (and boring) fiasco trying to get it out of the building. I wish they'd have thought of something more entertaining for that whole portion. Like maybe drive the Ferrari out of the window Ferris Bueller style and have it land on the Snoopy float.

i mostly watched it for murphy, he comes into the film late, i remember being disappointed.
