a weighty matter

A Ferrari Lusso weighs between 2,250–2,890 lbs. (Wikipedia). That's made of steel and aluminum. Made of gold, down to the wheels, it would weigh many times more. It couldn't be held up by a cable fastened to the (presumably gold) bumper. The suspension and tires couldn't hold it up. In fact it would probably fall through the floor. Other than that, a fun film:)

It's a fictional movie, not a documentary.

You should not, and in reality cannot, quote wikipedia. It is a wonderful source of very accurate information taken from other sources. Simply look at the bibliography for the wiki page, and if there isn't one, it might be bogus(but sometimes, rarely, there are no "legitimate" sources).

LOL what? That weight is quite realistic for that vehicle and vehicle weights are usually something that is pretty accurate on Wikipedia. Even if it weren't exactly correct, about 2500lbs sounds about right whichever way you slice it.

Assume that most of that is steel and then account for the difference in density with gold used as the material and you'd come up with something similar to the OP.

Steel for example is less than 8000kg/m^3 while gold is over 19,000kg/m^3--in other words over 2x the density. Wikipedia isn't even really needed here just some ballpark figures, and you'll see that the car (if it were made mostly from gold), would weigh around 6,000lbs.

See what Fitzhugh did was use his mathematics skills to calculate the value of the gold as if it weighed the same as the car. However what he forgot about was using science skills to realise that gold is much more dense than steel and other metals use to make cars. Therefore he was probably also off on his valuation and the car was likely worth 2-3x what he calculated.

You completely missed the point. Reading comprehension is not your forte.

Oh yeah someone has a problem with comprehension alright.

*I* missed the point yet *you're* the one that just completely ignored what the OP was saying and went off on some nonsensical "don't believe what you read on the intarwebs" clichéd foolery.

Once again, you completely missed the point. So much in fact you have inverted what I actually said in your puny mind. I understand you are confused and that makes you uncomfortable so you lash out in a not-so-latent attempt to shield your ego, but you should take a step back and reread what I originally said.

If you come to the same interpretation again, might I suggest heading to the nearest elementary school, Sullivan, or the like.
Here, I'll point you in the right direction.
